The 10 most instagrammable places in Rome or where to take dream photos in the capital

Photography has always been an excellent companion for travelling around the world, but for some years now it has become increasingly important to share our holidays and discoveries with friends, create amazing profiles on social networks or just have a little fun taking pictures while we discover new places, ethnic groups and cultures.

In our article “10 things to see in Rome: the best places to visit in the capital", you will already find tips on the most beautiful places in the capital, where you can surely take spectacular photos, sparking envy in relatives and friends. But now we want to suggest new places to discover, which also lend themselves to a breathtaking photo shoot.

Monuments not to be missed

Undoubtedly the first place worthy of Instagram is Castel Sant'Angelo, also known as Hadrian's Mausoleum, a beautiful fortress built by the Emperor Hadrian and located on the right bank of the Tiber. Its location and the magical Ponte Sant'Angelo leading to the main entrance make this an amazing place for photos, especially at sunset. Often you will also find street musicians who will make your photos even more magical.

The second place we recommend, especially for its grandeur and majesty, is the Mole del Vittoriano, a building erected in honour of Vittorio Emanuele II and conceived as a modern forum, an agora on three levels, located in Piazza Venezia, in the centre of Rome. Photos are a must, both from outside and inside the monument, and if you want to go mad, behind the Vittoriano you will also find the Imperial Forums and the Colosseum: a riot of photos awaits you!

For a more panoramic picture of Roman monuments, we suggest you climb up to the Terrazza del Pincio from Piazza del Popolo, from where you can see not only the piazza below, but also San Pietro, Castel Sant'Angelo and the beautiful blue sky of the capital.

Two special views

The Basilica of San Pietro is perhaps the most popular monument in the capital, but everything depends on how you look at things. For this we recommend two special views of the wonderful dome for your holiday photos.

The first view is from Ponte Sant'Angelo, where the Basilica can be immortalised together with the Tiber and its bridges. The best time is still sunset, during which you can also capture the beautiful colours of the sky; but don't underestimate the play of light at night time.

San Pietro da Ponte Sant'Angelo

The second very special view of the Basilica can be had from Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta, where you will find a huge door with a keyhole and probably a discreet line of people who take turns to admire the Dome of St Peter at the end of the avenue of the Gardens of the Order, located inside the Villa of the Priory of Malta. If you are a fairly practical photographer, the photo of the Basilica from the lock is definitely not to be missed.

A photo in a green setting

Not far from Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta, you will find the wonderful Giardino degli aranci, a silent and magical place on the Aventine hill, from where you can enjoy a great view of the city. This stage can be great if you like to take photos in green settings or simply if you want to refresh yourself for a moment before continuing with the photo tour.

For those looking for something a little different

Finally, we recommend four more less touristy and slightly more unconventional places to take your amazing photos of the Eternal City. The first is the Arco degli Acetari, located near Campo de' Fiori, on Via del Pellegrino. A narrow underpass leads to a medieval square preserved by time and protected from rebuilding. The place takes its name from the Acetosari, or sellers of sorrel water, who had their shops here, and it represents a rather inexpensive way to make a quick journey through time and see a completely different Rome from the city of today.

The second place is the neighborhood of Monti, located between the Colosseum and Termini Station. In addition to enjoying a Roman aperitif, the narrow streets of Monti, with their old houses and the ivy that spills over from many palaces, lend themselves particularly to the creation of delightful photos.

Another much more modern place to photograph is the Ponte della Musica, which connects the Auditorium Parco della Musica, the MAXXI museum and the Olympic theatre with the Foro Italico sports complex. The bridge is for pedestrians and cyclists only and, in summer, it is often filled with young people and music. It is certainly worth a photo if you happen to pass it.

Finally, if you are a lover of street art, we recommend taking a tour of the murals in the Ostiense district, located in Via Ostiense itself, Via dei Magazzini Generali, Via delle Conce and above all Via del Porto Fluviale, where you can also find a magnificent mural depicting a heron that, in addition to beautifying the area, is made of antismog paint. Beautiful and ecological!

We are waiting for you in the capital armed with your smartphone or your camera! Remember that you can stay at one of our Roman facilities, Roma Camping in Town or Fabulous Village, to enjoy the city.
