Florence is a very lively city in summer, full of events: the so-called Florentine summer offers a collection of cultural events, concerts, exhibitions and special initiatives that take place in locations that are opened specifically for the occasion. The warm Florentine evenings make it pleasant to be outdoors after sundown, sipping a cocktail or a glass of wine, and maybe attending a dance show or a live performance.
The summer version of Pitti Immagine Uomo, which is taking place from 11 to 14 June 2019, brings the best of the big names in men's fashion to Florence, as well as emerging brands from all over the world. For a few days the city is transformed into the capital of fashion, with events and fashion shows scattered throughout the city. Many shops in the historic centre organise evening drinks or stay open late with DJ sets and VIP guests. And in the evening there is the competition for the most exclusive party!

Summer 2019 promises to be full of concerts and musical events. The fun starts in June and continues until September!
Fans of the American band, Imagine Dragons, will be ecstatic to know that the band will be making their only European stop in Florence on 2 June, opening the season of summer concerts in Florence.
A few days later it will be Mariah Carey's turn to perform live at Franchi on 8 June with John Legend, for her the only Italian stop, for him the only European stop, for a concert that promises to be unique and very exciting. Florence4Ever is the occasion, a celebratory event inspired by the historical links between the city of Florence and the United States of America. It will be held at the stadium thanks to the partnership with ACFiorentina.

For lovers of live music, the event dedicated to rock music returns, which is getting better every year, bringing to Florence thousands of spectators. The names appearing at Florence Rocks 2019, which takes place from 13 to 16 June, are those of great artists from the current music scene and the rock scene of years gone by. So here you can watch Ed Sheeran, Eddie Vedder, the Cure, Smashing Pumpkins and Tool live.
For Italian fans, another great rock singer is coming to Florence: in fact, Ligabue will be at the Artemio Franchi stadium on 19 June, with his "Start Tour 2019" that will take him on tour round the main Italian stadiums.
If you intend to come to Florence for one of the amazing summer concerts, the most convenient solution is the Plus Florence, a hotel that is both a hotel and a hostel, with double rooms, family rooms and multi-bed dorms. What makes Plus Florence the perfect place?
Flexibility. If you are travelling with a group of friends, you can choose to sleep in a 6-8 bed dormitory or in the more traditional double rooms.
Swimming pool: during the day you can take a dip in the swimming pool, in the evening go to the concert!
Wi-fi and other services designed for customers who travel a lot and also appreciate spaces for socialising.
But summer in Florence does not mean only the June concerts, here's what else you can do during your Florentine holiday.
Florence celebrates San Giovanni, its patron saint, on 24 June. On that date there are various events you can follow: the final of the Calcio Storico Fiorentino, the historical procession with figures dressed in Renaissance costumes, flag-wavers and drums, which parades in the streets of central Florence and finally the fireworks over Piazzale Michelangelo.
From 13 July to 24 July 2019 in Florence, the MusArt Festival is held, a festival that combines music, dance and art in Piazza Santissima Annunziata. For ten days the beautiful Florentine piazza becomes the stage where the dancer Roberto Bolle leaps and turns lightly, Loreena McKennit enchants with her Celtic music and other artists perform. In general, spectators can freely access the museums in the area, such as the renovated Museo degli Innocenti, showing the ticket for the show.
There are other festivals dedicated to individual arts, namely cinema, music, literature, photography and theatre... the programmes for which are still being put together. Make a note of these names:
The Florence Dance Festival that in the past years has chosen beautiful contexts such as the Bargello and the Cloister of Santa Maria Novella
The open-air cinema at the Uffizi - Open Cinema! - with free entry
Florence Jazz Fringe Festival: who can fail to remember the jazz solo on a raft on the Arno?
Estate Fiesolana: high quality cultural shows, including musicals, comedies and jazz performances are staged in an incredible context, such as the Roman Theatre of Fiesole.

Florence is also home to important exhibitions. At Palazzo Strozzi from March to mid-July, you can visit the exhibition dedicated to Andrea del Verrocchio, the master of Leonardo da Vinci. Over 120 works, coming to Florence from the most important museums in the world, to reconstruct the artistic path of a great Renaissance artist.
In the summer there will certainly be a beautiful exhibition of contemporary art at Forte Belvedere: a panoramic place that lends itself to Instagram posts!
In summer, many open-air venues are open, with bars serving drinks and small snacks. From the beach along the river Arno with the Easy Living kiosk where you can eat lampredotto, to the cultural space of Le Murate, passing through the Garden of Art, the outdoor area, Light, near the stadium, the Limonaia of Villa Strozzi, and ending with the beautiful panoramic bar, Flower, at the Piazzale Michelangelo.
